What is free play at SpinGranny?

Free play, also called demo mode or fun mode, is a build of a slot that runs on the studio's normal game server with the balance replaced by credits that have no cash value. The reels, the paytable, the volatility, the maximum win and the frequency at which the bonus round triggers are all identical to the real-money build. Studios do not maintain two sets of mathematics, and regulators would not permit them to.

That equivalence is the entire point. A demo session is a genuine sample of how a game behaves. If a high-volatility title goes two hundred spins without a feature in demo mode, it will do the same thing with your money in it. Finding that out for nothing is worth more than any welcome bonus.

How to start a free play session

  1. Open the games lobbyGo to the slots section and use the filters to narrow the catalogue by studio, volatility or feature type.
  2. Hover or long-press a game tileTitles that support a demo show a Demo or Play for fun option alongside the main play button.
  3. Launch the demoThe game opens with a virtual balance, usually between 1,000 and 5,000 credits depending on the studio.
  4. Test at a realistic stakeSet the bet size to the same fraction of the virtual balance you would use with real money, otherwise the session tells you nothing useful about variance.
  5. Run enough spins to see the featureOn a high-volatility slot, plan on two to three hundred spins before judging it. Reload the page at any point to restore the credits.

Free play versus free spins

These two terms get used interchangeably and they should not be. They differ in the one respect that matters, which is whether the outcome is real.

The 250 free spins in the welcome package are the second kind. What they are worth, and what the wagering costs you, is set out on the SpinGranny bonus page.

What free play cannot tell you

Demo mode is an honest sample of a game, but it is a poor sample of your own behaviour. Losing a thousand virtual credits feels like nothing, so people bet larger fractions of the balance, chase features and play far longer than they would with real stakes. The session then teaches you the wrong lesson about both the game and yourself.

The fix is to impose the real constraints artificially. Decide what a real session would be - say 100 EUR at 0.50 EUR a spin - and mirror the ratio in demo credits. Stop when the virtual balance would have been gone. What you learn from that is transferable. What you learn from spending 5,000 credits at maximum bet is not.

A useful test. Run 200 demo spins on a title at a fixed stake and note how many times the bonus round triggered and how deep the longest dry streak went. That single number tells you more about whether a slot fits your bankroll than any published return to player figure.

Which games have no demo, and why

Live dealer tables cannot run in free play because there is a real person dealing real cards in a real studio, and a table has finite seats. A demo player would occupy capacity that produces no revenue, so no operator offers it. Progressive jackpot slots are excluded because the pool grows from real stakes; a demo spin contributes nothing and therefore cannot be allowed to win from it. A handful of exclusive titles are also real-money only during their launch window.

Everything else - the great majority of the catalogue described on the games page - has a demo build. If a title you want is missing one, it is almost certainly in one of those three categories.

Moving from free play to real stakes

When you decide to play for money, the transition is a single toggle inside the game plus a funded balance. Two things are worth doing first. Complete account verification, because it has to happen before your first withdrawal and doing it early removes the delay from the moment it matters. And decide whether you want the welcome bonus, because opting in changes the rules your balance plays by, including a 5 EUR maximum stake per spin. The play online page covers the real-money session in detail.

SpinGranny free play FAQ

Is the free play mode really free?

Yes. Demo mode loads a virtual balance that has no cash value. Nothing is deducted from a payment method, nothing is won, and you can reload the page to reset the credits as often as you like.

Do I need an account for free play?

Many slots open in demo mode without an account. Some studios require a signed-in session before serving the demo build, so registering removes the inconsistency. Registration itself is free and needs no deposit.

Which games have no free play mode?

Live dealer tables, progressive jackpot slots and a small number of exclusive releases. Live games need real stakes because a human dealer is running a real table, and jackpot titles need real contributions to build the pool.

Are the odds the same in free play as in real money mode?

Yes. The demo runs the same certified random number generator and the same paytable, so the return to player figure and the frequency of bonus triggers are identical. Only the value of the credits differs.

Can I win real money in demo mode?

No. Winnings in free play are virtual and cannot be withdrawn or converted. To play for real stakes you fund the account through the cashier and switch the game into real money mode.

How do free spins differ from free play?

Free spins are a bonus awarded on a real-money account and any winnings from them are real, subject to wagering. Free play is a demo with virtual credits and no cash outcome at all. They are separate things that are often confused.

Test the games before you deposit

Demo mode costs nothing, uses the same maths as real play, and answers the only question worth answering before you fund an account: does this game suit the way you play?

18+ only. Terms and wagering requirements apply. Play responsibly.
